12 DEC 2023Deposit Return Scheme
Important Customer Information
Ireland will introduce a Deposit Return Scheme starting February 1st, 2024.
When you purchase a drink in a plastic bottle, aluminium, or steel can that features the Re-turn logo, a small deposit will be added to the drink's price.
Upon return the empty and undamaged container to any retail outlet, you will receive a full refund of your deposit.
Thank you for your participation in our efforts towards a more sustainable future.
Please Note
This is mandatory for those selling in-scope products, such as plastic bottles or cans. Registration can be completed through www.re-turn.ie.
More information can be found at https://re-turn.ie/
Not every outlet is obligated to accept DRS products from consumers; certain exemptions apply:
• Retail outlets with a footprint/layout of 250 sq m or under of retail store space can choose to apply for a take-back exemption during the registration process.
• All foodservice establishments must register with the scheme and will automatically receive a take-back exemption. Despite this exemption, foodservice outlets will still be subject to the DRS fee on products and will pass this cost on to constumers. However, they are not required to accept empty containers for a refund.
